Introduced in 1989, the Rolex GMT-Master II reference 16710 enjoyed a production run of almost 20 years until it was phased out in 2007
It is considered the last classically proportioned GMT-Master II thanks its more refined and wearable 40mm case compared to more contemporary references
It was also the last GMT-Master II to have an aluminium bezel insert; representing the end of an era for the more traditionally styled Rolex sports watches
The watch is paired with a blue and red ‘Pepsi’ bezel, a popular configuration for the GMT and one that echoes the original from 1954
In this particular example the red part of the bezel faded to a light shade of red over the years
