In the midst of the quartz crisis, only a small number of complicated mechanical movements were produced by Switzerland’s top watchmakers
In 1984, just 1,066 perpetual calendars were produced in Switzerland with Audemars Piguet making 675 of those
The Quantieme Perpetual Calendar was introduced in 1978, and designed by Jacqueline Dimier
The 36mm case has a thickness of less than 8mm, which at the time made it the world’s thinnest automatic perpetual calendar
In addition to the perpetual subdials, a moonphase disc is also featured at the 6 o’clock position, and thanks to the thin hands, retains plenty of legibility for such a complicated watch
The movement in charge of all these complications is the calibre 2120/2, which is based on Jaeger-LeCoultre’s legendary ultra-thin JLC 920 movement
This base movement was also used by the other ‘Holy Trinity’ members, namely Vacheron Constantin and Patek Philippe
